On this egress window project in Clifton, Virginia we installed a 28“ x 46“ WITAL European tilt and turn window with a white corrugated steel Boman N Kemp window well. There was no existing window so we had to cut a larger opening and install structural framing. As you can see in the pictures, to support the load above we used two 2 x 6 jack studs and two 2 x 8 king studs on each side and three 2 x 10 header on the top. We then installed flashing over top of the woodwork and OSI sealant. This window well also did not have an existing drain tile so we had to install a sump pump at the footing. We use a Proflo sump pump with a backflow prevention valve and came up to grade. After backfilling with 4 tons of stone we then tamped the soil back down and re-graded the area.
